In the 1980s, Benromach seemed destined for closure before the independent bottler Gordon & Macphail from Elgin took it on. In 1998, the Forres distillery was reopened by Prince Charles. Benromach is one of the few distilleries in Scotland's Speyside region that continues to produce whisky using peated malted barley. Benromach Contrasts Peat Smoke was produced
