The modified heel creates a gusset for a better fit and allows you to try the sock on during knitting. The socks start with a cuff worked in 1x1 ribbing, the leg is then worked in 3x1 ribbing. Stitches are then placed on hold and new stitches for the sole are casted on using a provisional crochet CO. The
